IVF GOT A PLAN

  • Mind. Body. Spirit.

Follicles take a minimum of 3 months to grow.

Use this time to begin preparing your mind and body for what is to come as this journey can be harsh on you mentally and physically.

Consider ways to simplify your life, like food prepping & a gentle exercise routine.

  • Ask Questions.

    Repeat after me:

    I AM MY BEST ADVOCATE.

Always ask questions and consider seeking a second opinion. Knowing the theory behind what your doctors are telling you will help you make the most informed decisions.

  • Financials.

Begin with researching available insurance options, including regular & speciality medication benefits. Consider a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Reflect on financial advantages that may be available, such as company benefits, active military/veteran benefits, and fertility specific loans.

3 MONTH PREP:

Getting ready for a reproductive technology journey takes time—and the process of growing follicles can take a minimum of three months. So, use this time wisely to prepare your mind and body for the road ahead.

DIET:

First, focus on your diet. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but making sure you’re nourishing your body with the right foods can make a big difference. Consider adding prenatal vitamins and folic acid into your routine.

EXERCISE:

Next, think about your exercise routine, but be mindful of activities that could cause strain. Low-impact exercises like yoga, walking, or swimming are great options because they help keep your body active without putting too much stress on it.

Suggestion? Think like an Olympian. Focus on your diet, including necessary supplements, and exercise. Find a healthy hobby that can focus your energy during appointment days and fertility programs.

Seriously, even Olympians pick up energy harnessing hobbies!

Give your mind & body the attention they deserve.

Set building blocks for success!

Supplements:

They're often recommended, but always check in with your healthcare provider to see what’s best for you. Commonly suggested supplements: Prenatal + folic acid, vitamin D & CoQ10

Food prep: great way to simplify your life!

Find ways to simplify daily life to help take off the mental load this journey requires, especially during a fertility program. Having healthy meals ready to go can reduce stress and help you stick to your nutrition goals. Check the two week plan page for a food prep suggestion!

Simplify other areas of your life, too. If there are tasks or commitments you can put on hold or delegate for a while, now’s the time to do it. The more you can take off your plate, the more space you'll have for yourself, both mentally and physically.

Exercise caution:

Pun intended. But seriously, be cautious of your exercise regimen —especially when it comes to movements that involve twisting or turning, as these could put extra pressure on your ovaries. Ovarian contortion is a big concern during treatments! Ovarian contortion is when the ovary moves or twists on its supporting ligaments, which can be painful and may interfere with your treatment. It’s likely your doctor will advise against exercises that involve twisting or sudden movements. Instead, try gentler activities like mindful stretching or walking that likely won't risk that kind of strain.

Think like an Olympian…

Consider pursuing a hobby to help you unwind, especially on days when you're feeling drained or after appointments. Things like singing out loud for all to hear, splatter painting, or solving rubik’s cubes can be a great ways to channel your energy into something relaxing and positive.

Ask questions

before, during, & after your appointments

During this journey, you will explore a flurry of hard hitting questions regarding your physical and mental health, financial well being, basic wills and what parenthood may look like. If you have a partner during this time, nearly all of these aspects effects them, too.

Your reproductive journey is deeply personal, and you are the expert on your own body and needs. It’s crucial to always ask questions and never hesitate to seek a second opinion. Understanding the reasoning and theory behind your doctor’s recommendations empowers you to make informed decisions. This knowledge also serves as a strong foundation for your own research, helping you feel more confident as you move forward.

Asking the hard hitting questions to yourself, your partner, and your doctor helps you understand your mental, physical and fiscal boundaries you are working within.

Sharpen your advocacy toolkit

Advocating for yourself means staying informed and taking control, so don’t shy away from asking yourself and your doctor questions. Your voice matters, and it’s key to ensuring your journey is the best it can be.

It’s a tough journey. You're stronger than you realize.

Financials

Looking to fund your IVF journey? Here’s a breakdown of some options to get you started.

Start by reviewing your insurance benefits. A key term to search for is "Assisted Reproductive Technology" (ART), which could cover some or all of your fertility treatments. Don’t forget to also check for coverage related to fertility medications. For a list of the most common medications, head over to our treatment page for more details.

Next, consider opening a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). If you have the option, an HSA is a great choice since it’s a tax-advantaged account you can use to save for multiple years before you begin treatment.

Finally, explore other financial advantages that may be available to you. Some employers offer fertility benefits, and if you're an active military member or a veteran, there may be additional support. Fertility-specific loans are also an option if you need extra financial assistance.
